March 27 Filet Mignon with Shoestring Potatoes

The BBQ sauce smells great when it is simmering. Ingredients include carots, celery, onion, garlic, tomato paste, beef broth, red wine, balsamic vinegar, bay leaves and fresh rosemary. The flavor was not as good as the smell. It was fairly mild. Not bad at all but I just like a bit more flavor in a BBQ sauce. Next time I may add some Worcestershie sauce. I have made a lot of home made sauces cooking ribs. I have not used carots, celery or beef broth before. Live and learn!

Mrs. Grill'n made the shoe string potatoes. They were very good but a lot of work. Nothing to do with the grill of course. Heat up a lot of peanut oil, peel some large Idaho Potatoes and cut them into very thin slices, put them in water, dry in salad spinner and then cook in the oil for 10 minutes or so and there you have it! You have to really watch them or they will burn. Personally, I would rather have baked potatoes on the grill. Much less work and you don't have to deal with all the leftover oil.

  1. A salad spinner...now that is a good idea. I have tried making home made fries and they always come out too wet from all of the water in the potatoes.

  2. The grilled steak was great, and the sauce was good too. The shoestring potatoes were an incredible amount of trouble and it was impossible to keep the first batch hot while cooking the last batch. Maybe with a true home fryer we could have done more of them at once. It was kind of fun cutting them.
